Lyle leaned heavily against railing that lined the shore part of the dock. A playful wind beckoned him, dancing through ship's sails and tugging at sailor's clothes. The sun was hidden behind dark clouds, and an eerie silence had settled in the water. No boats were coming in or going out. A new crew had recently arrived on a very large and expensive ship. They'd seemed tired, and made their way straight into the nearest inn, sluggishly calling hellos and politely nodding their heads.
Lyle was now alone on the dock, for the most part. A few dock hand boys helped here and there, some staring at him in awe, most likely wondering whether Lyle was a pirate or not. Of course another pirate would be able to tell immediately, because of his scars and the dark skin. His face also held a look of experience, easily spotted by others of his kind. Yet at the same time, someone who was not a pirate would be puzzled. Lyle did not make the same ugly, hot-headed face most pirates did. He didn't spit rudely or talk as if he had to be heard over drums.
No, Lyle was more so reserved, not a common trait of your common pirate. He preferred to keep his voice down, talking in hushed tones. His eyes constantly looked hungry, whether it was for food or something else, it wasn't easily discernible. The man's chin was a bit pointier than most manly, square-chinned pirates, giving him the slightest feminine touch.
Lyle shifted against the railing, pain from leaning against the hard surface shooting through his arm. He straightened his back, stretching his arms, when he heard approaching footsteps.
